Family daycare and pedagogical care

Family daycare and pedagogical care is an alternative to preschool or after-school care for children aged 1–12.

It can take place either in:

The caregiver’s home (traditional family daycare)
Specially designed facilities

The focus is on supporting children’s development and learning through engaging, educational activities. Parents pay a fee for their child’s participation.

Public preschool means all children have the right to 15 hours per week of free care from the autumn term of the year they turn three.

Who can attend pedagogical care?

Children from 1 year old: can attend preschool or pedagogical care
Children of parents on parental leave: 15 hours per week until the autumn term of the year the child turns three. From then, up to 25 hours per week (earliest start 15 August). Times are decided by the manager.
Children of job-seeking parents: 20 hours per week until the autumn term of the year the child turns three. From then, up to 25 hours per week (earliest start 15 August). Times are decided by the manager.
