Family daycare and pedagogical care

Pedagogical care is an alternative to preschool or after-school care for children aged 1–12.

It can take place either in:

• The caregiver’s home (traditional family daycare)
• Specially designed facilities

The focus is on supporting children’s development and learning through engaging, educational activities. Parents pay a fee for their child’s participation.

Public preschool means all children have the right to 15 hours per week of free care from the autumn term of the year they turn three.

Applying for family daycare and pedagogical care

If you and your child have a Swedish personal identity number you can apply easily through our e-service.

If you do not have a Swedish personal identity number you can pic up a application form at the entrance of Stadshuset, 721 87 Västerås or email kontaktcenter@vasteras.se. Make sure you also fill in the supplementary cover sheet with contact information for your child’s guardians.
